Blairgowrie

Stradling the banks of the river Ericht, Blairgowrie is Perthshires second largest town. Through the centuries it has always been a thriving centre for the eastern side of the county. It originally developed its presence from being home to the major production of "Flax" (a crop partly known for its oil crushed from the seeds, but mainly for its yield of a natural fibre stronger than any other. This was used in the manufacturing of various textiles including canvas, wrappings & dressings) in the 1800,s. Today it is regarded as one of Scotland primary soft fruit growing areas, specialising in raspberries and strawberries.

The town offers visitors a variety of shops, walks, local history and is also known as the gateway to Glenshee "the fairy glen".

Nearby you can learn about the 1000 year old farming town of Alyth, at the Alyth Museum, visit the amazing collection of Celtic Christian period sculptured stones at Meigle Museum or experience the tallest hedge in the world planted in 1746 at Meiklour.
